Investing in high school is an important and often difficult decision. We understand that families must weigh the benefits of a private education with their own priorities and personal expenses. It is often in planning for college that families begin seriously considering the benefits of boarding school. The number of students applying to college has been steadily increasing, making it more difficult for students to attend their college of choice. The advantages of private school, especially boarding, make it appealing for families wanting to give their student an edge in the college process. Financial aid availability also becomes a factor. The possibility of financial aid and merit based scholarships is much greater in college, making the cost of boarding school more feasible. With the edge a boarding school education provides and the amount of financial aid available for college, investing in high school becomes a viable option.

So why a White Mountain education?

It could go without saying that our academics are rigorous, our teachers are committed and passionate, and our student body is engaged in the learning process. You will find this at most college preparatory boarding schools. So what sets us apart?

  • Our Community- Everyone that visits WMS notices that our community is truly different. We are intentionally small, which accounts for some of what people witness. We really know each other, we are comfortable around each other, we accept each other. But it is more than size that makes our community special. Once students feel the freedom of really being accepted for who they are, they become committed to maintaining this environment for others. And how does this prepare our students for college? They begin to take risks, explore new passions, speak out in class, and take on leadership roles. Our community allows students to thrive.
  • Our Classrooms- Part of our typical admission's tour always includes a class visit. We can talk about small class sizes; open discussions; hands-on, collaborative learning; and comfortable student/teacher interactions, but more importantly we want you to experience it. Our students leave WMS prepared for college with a deep knowledge of core subjects and a real understanding of the learning process. From our use of learning outcomes to support provided by our Learning Center, students become independent learners able to think critically and creatively.
  • Our Programs- Our programs are diverse and the opportunities are many. Each is designed to encourage students to be active and make a positive difference in the world around them. Students may find their voice through sustainability studies, fine and performing arts, outdoor education, or independent studies or projects they have developed. Our programs allow students to make a meaningful connection between what goes on in the classroom and the real life application of this knowledge. Through these programs students learn to value the meaning of education and are well prepared for success in college.
