Also,
in order to help students quickly adapt to life in the US and on the
White Mountain campus, regular gatherings are held exclusively for
international students. These gathering might be BBQ’s, field trips to
Boston, or simply dessert socials; however, during the meetings the
students have the opportunity to discuss the joys and struggles which
are unique to being an international student. In addition, every spring
the international students work together to present our annual
International Night Festival. This special evening event gives
international students a formal opportunity to share their culture with
the larger White Mountain School community.
While
international students do enjoy interacting with each other, because of
our school’s small size, they also interact comfortably and regularly
with other students as well. These relationships are facilitated on the
first day of school when international students are paired up with
American students in the dorm.
White Mountain promotes a culture on campus in which multi-culturalism and diversity are seen as assets and are celebrated. For example, every year White Mountain hosts a series of international performances. Past events include Japanese Taiko drumming, Brazilian Capoeira Dancing, and Armenian Folk Singing. In addition, WMS has a student run, Multi-Cultural Diversity club. It is the goal of the club to promote a celebration of multi-culturalism on campus, and it gives international students the opportunity to interact with other students who are also interested in different cultures from around the world.
