On-Site Format

In an on-sight route, the climber will not see any other person climb the route prior to attempting it him/herself. To accomplish that goal, climbers enter an isolation area prior to the event and are brought out one at a time to climb. When competing in an on-sight format competition, receipt of any information concerning a route prior to or during the attempt on the route is grounds for disqualification of the competitor. Competitors are free to discuss a route with other competitors in isolation who have not previously climbed/attempted the route. One-round, designated routes for each category, multi-route, single attempt ONLY.

  1. The gym will set routes per category.
  2. Climbers are not permitted to watch others’ attempts before they climb the routes themselves.
  3. Climbers are permitted a preview of their routes prior to climbing, however.
  4. Climbers are kept in isolation and are brought out one at a time to climb.
  5. Each of the routes is climbed in sequence, with a set amount of time permitted to climb each route.  A separate rest period MAY be given between routes.
  6. Only one attempt is permitted on each route.
  7. The highest point reached on the route is scored in accordance with USA Climbing rules for on-sight format competitions.

  • Sport Climbing (SCS) alone is $22*
  • For the infrequent attendees, $5 per comp will get you ranked for that comp and will put you in the overall USA Climbing database.

** Memberships will only be available ON-LINE at USA Climbing this year. This will help expedite membership packages and will increase accuracy in rankings. Competitors will have until the Tuesday night immediately after their competition at 11:59p MST to register on-line so that scores from that weekend’s comp will be counted.
