Team Sports
Competitive lacrosse and soccer are offered for both boys and girls. Soccer is played in the fall followed by lacrosse in the spring. Though competitive, there are no try-outs. Being on the team is open to everyone, regardless of skill level. And don't plan on sitting on the bench. Everyone gets serious playing time; everyone contributes to the team. Our weekday schedule provides for four afternoons for practice. Games are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays. White Mountain competes with other independent schools in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine.

Outdoor Sports
Have you ever wished you had an option other than team sports? Imagine this: fall, winter, and spring sports like mountain biking, flat and whitewater paddling, rock and ice climbing, backcountry skiing, snowboarding, Nordic and alpine skiing, and Farm & Forest crew. The outdoor sports program runs four days per week, just like our team sports. Most of our teachers are Wilderness First Responders or Wilderness EMTs. Our faculty not only coach outdoor sports, they do them for fun, too!
Weekend trips supplement the program and include backcountry skiing/boarding, ice climbing, rock climbing, mountain biking, paddling, kayaking, and other adventures – from beginner through advanced. These trips provide a great opportunity for students to participate in another activity which may not be their chosen sport for the season.
During the winter sports term, students ski and snowboard only minutes away at one of three of New Hampshire's best ski areas – Loon Mountain, Cannon Mountain, and Bretton Woods. Students hit the slopes at least four afternoons per week with additional ski trips to other area resorts on the weekends.
Farm & Forest Crew
Farm & Forest Crew is now offered as a new sport. Students are helping to create a farm at White Mountain. Fall students were involved with building a timberframe garden shed, harvesting vegetables from the garden for the kitchen, preparing the garden beds in our new garden, working on our composting systems, and planting winter cover crops. Spring Farm & Forest Crew will prepare the garden for planting by starting seeds, conducting soil tests, adding soil amendments and planting garden beds. It is also the time for maple sugaring (tree identification, tapping trees, chopping wood and boiling sap). As time allows, students will do trail maintenance, building bridges and waterbars in area forests.
Indoor Climbing Wall & Fitness Center
The School's indoor climbing facility covers 3,000 sq. ft., peaks at a height of 38 feet, and includes over 500 sq. ft. of terrain for bouldering, ropes set with mechanical belay devices, bolts for lead climbing, intricate corner systems, and real crack systems. Its surface is comprised of elements giving it the life-like texture and feel of real granite rock. The wall is one part of our indoor athletic facility that includes free weights, Nautilus equipment, basketball hoops, and a jogging track.
