We offer students many, many opportunities to grow as leaders and good team members. In addition to leadership opportunities described here, students also participate in clubs, on the yearbook staff, and as peer tutors. Student-initiated weekends and school spirit activities, such as Light Blue and Dark Blue competitions, are encouraged and welcomed.
OLE Leaders
Outdoor Leadership Expeditions (OLEs) frequently feature student-initiated, student-led trips, with leaders prepared through their own trip experiences and our “leadership seminar.”
Dorm Proctors
Student dorm proctors are selected by Dorm Heads and the Dean of Students to assist the dorm heads by supervising, coaching, and mentoring others. They lead, support, inspire, and guide their peers throughout the academic year. Proctors play an important role in providing student feedback to dorm heads and establishing an effective support system in their dorms. Each dorm has two proctors. One Outdoor Learning Expedition trip during the year is dedicated for the proctors to continue with their training and leadership growth.
Peer Tutors
Now in its second year, the dorm tutor program continues to be helpful to students. Selected students from the junior and senior dorms take turns spending evening time in the younger dorms to assist with study hall and provide academic tutoring when needed. Peer tutors are also present after study hall to provide a positive older student presence in the dorms. Peer tutors act as role models for students who are often adjusting to life at boarding school.
Student Government
Each year, the School President and Judge are elected by the entire WMS community -- students, faculty, and staff. Dorm representatives are elected to the Student Council and Citizenship Committee.
Admissions Tour Guides
Each year, the Admissions team invites a select group of students to serve as tour guides to assist their office with visits by prospective families. Tour Guides serve as representatives of the School, answer questions by prospective students, and provide the Admissions team with feedback. To be asked to be a tour guide is an honor.
