Support Systems

Student health is the concern of the entire WMS community. As a boarding school, we are particularly concerned with the physical and mental health of our students as their health directly influences their education goals. Faculty, staff, proctors, and coaches are all committed to modeling healthy lives and habits for the students. Beyond our dedicated classroom and residential faculty, even more support systems are in place. The School's mission includes helping our students to balance their lives.

Health & Wellness
At the heart of our student support network is our full-time Health Services staff, which is committed to ensuring the health and wellness of all WMS students. Our Director of Health Services is a registered nurse is equipped to provide comprehensive health care for our students and manage everything from nurturing the common cold, distributing medications, and soothing athletic aches and pains to monitoring more serious health concerns. Our Health Services staff works closely with local physicians, nurses, and a clinical counselor.

Student Assistance Program
Our health delivery system is supported by a Student Assistance Program (SAP), with two faculty counselors available for easy, confidential access by students.

Advisors
Advisors are the adults most responsible for a student at White Mountain. For families, they are the first contact for any questions or concerns regarding their child. They serve as the primary liaison between student, family, and teacher.

The relationship between advisor and advisee is most important. Developing close personal bonds with each advisee and maintaining an awareness of what is happening in each of their lives on a day-to-day basis, is the essence of what it means to be an advisor. Advisors make every effort to know the academic, athletic, and social particulars of each of their advisees. Daily check-ins before Morning Meeting, advisee dinners, informal gatherings, and frequent conversations help build this important relationship. Advisors strive to cultivate an atmosphere of trust in which students can openly discuss personal issues.

When a student needs help, the advisor either provides it or finds the necessary assistance. In addition to offering a listening ear and practical assistance, the advisor is a source of reliable information regarding policy, procedures, and opportunities.

LAP Tutors
Learning Assistance Program (LAP) Tutors work with about twenty-five students each year and address two types of learning needs — organization and study skills and/or identified learning difference(s). Tutors assist students with gaining confidence, strategies, and accommodations to become successful independent learners.
