The White Mountain School Fitness Center played host to a SCS on sight Climbing Competition Saturday, April 21, 2012. The 3000 sq. ft. climbing wall was the blank canvas for professional route setters and NH residents Sydney McNair and Mike Veazey. Built in 2003 by Leading Edge Climbing Walls (LECW), the Beverly S. Buder '42 Climbing Wall has been an integral resource for WMS Outdoor Education as well as the student population as a whole.
This year's competition was held in an “on sight” style, meaning competitors do not see the climbing routes until moments before they begin their climb. This format ensures a level playing field amongst all competitors. It also tests their abilities to climb difficult routes near their physical limit without any prior practice or forethought.
Competitors weren’t the only ones participating in the excitement there were many student and faculty voluteers there to help out and everyone present enjoyed tasty treats from the student bake sales which support charity organizations, as well as the $5 BBQ lunch which has nearly reached a state of infamy in its own right.
