Kitty was a truly phenomenal woman, living a life of curiosity and intellectual rigor, of friendship and service, of joy and music. Outpourings of love and support have flooded The White Mountain School since Kitty's passing. Without exception, the thoughts shared have been a true celebration of Kitty's life. WMS/SMS is committed to honoring Kitty's life and legacy.
Kitty's last official act as a member of The White Mountain School's Board of Trustees was to vote her whole-hearted approval for the construction of a new arts center at the School. Kitty's leadership support of music at WMS was instrumental in the board's decision to move ahead with this important project. Following Kitty's tragic death, The White Mountain School's Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name the arts center in Kitty's honor. Construction of the Catherine Houghton '60 Arts Center, which will house needed classroom space for our School's growing programs in music, dance and the visual arts, is scheduled to begin this spring and the opening is planned for January, 2014. I cannot think of a better way to honor Kitty than to ensure that the words and spirit of our School song, "Lift thine eyes, O lift thine eyes to the mountains...", are sung as strongly today and in the future as they were then by Kitty and our fellow alumnae at St. Mary's.
