Dear Members of The White Mountain School
It is with great pleasure and excitement that we announce that the Board of Trustees has unanimously selected John Drew to become The White Mountain School’s next Head of School effective July 1, 2019. John comes to us from Concord Academy in Concord, Massachusetts, where he has served as Assistant Head of School and Academic Dean since 2007.
During his 21 year tenure at Concord Academy, John has served many roles, including overseeing curriculum and working closely with faculty to develop new programs. He oversaw their New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) self-study and has worked diligently to advance Concord Academy’s Community and Equity initiative. John developed the School’s Academic Technology Plan and played a significant role in shaping the School’s marketing efforts.
Before entering academic administration, John served as a teacher and later the Science Department Chair at Concord Academy. He began his career at the Field School in Washington, D.C. and also served as a science teacher and Director of Summer Academic Programs at Potomac School in McLean, VA. John earned his undergraduate degree from Amherst College and his Masters from Smith College. John and his wife, Gianna Drew, are the parents of two children, Sophie, age 21 and Nate, age 18. John and Gianna are looking forward to joining the White Mountain community and residing in the beautiful mountains of New Hampshire.
The Board was particularly impressed by John’s leadership experience, breadth of academic knowledge and compassion for students. His understanding of the special qualities and characteristics of White Mountain will help him expand upon our strengths and continue to advance our Mission
and Our Vision for the Future.
His beliefs and viewpoints resonate equally well with our students, alumnae/i, faculty and friends. We all look forward to a great future for The White Mountain School
under John’s leadership.

I would also like to thank all of the students, faculty, staff and parents who provided thoughtful feedback during the search process. With John’s leadership, we are confident The White Mountain School will continue to prepare and inspire our students to lead lives of curiosity, courage and compassion. Please join us in warmly welcoming John and Gianna to The White Mountain School community. Over the coming months, we look forward to opportunities to further introduce you to them both.
