Performing Arts

Whether you are just curious about dance or come to White Mountain with many years of dance training, you can find your stage at The White Mountain School. Through our partnership with Creative Edge Dance Studio, we are able to offer numerous and varied dance opportunities for a White Mountain student to explore or further their interest in dance. Our offerings include academic courses as well as technique and performance-based classes for a number of different dance styles and dancer ability levels.

The White Mountain School students can elect to pursure their musical interests through ensemble study, private lessons, or vocal study with our A Cappella group. We also offer courses in music appreciation, music history (Baroque to Jazz and Jazz to Modern), and music theory. Music classes are held in the beautiful, new Catherine Houghton Arts Center with views of the White Mountains and plenty of space for group and individual practice outside of class. Students perform for our School and community throughout the school year. Our community is musically-inclined! It is not unusual to see students playing guitar together after class or meeting with teachers for an impromptu "jam" session on the weekend.

The White Mountain School students can elect to study acting through graded elective arts courses where students engage in script reading, improvisational acting, theater games, theoretical studies, and on-stage skill building and performing.  Theater students also learn stage directions and blocking, and gain an appreciation for theater history. Students may also select to participate in our afternoon theater program. Theater classes are held in a dedicated space, our black box theater. The entire school community looks forward to theater performances throughout the academic year!
