Graduation Requirements

Students take at least five courses during each semester and must complete 19 credits to be eligible for a WMS diploma.

Minimum Subject Requirements

List of 10 items.

  • English

    At least 4.0 credits* are required.  Students must take at least one semester of English each year and must successfully complete four years of study in English, including two senior English electives (one semester each).
  • Field Courses

    Each student must successfully complete two Field Courses per year.
  • History

    At least 2.5 credits are required.  Students must successfully complete courses in modern world history (one year), American history (one year), and a one semester elective.
  • Independent Project

    Successful completion of the Independent Project requirement. The School expects that student projects will fit within the broad categories of Leadership, Arts, Service, or "traditional" academic Research (LASR). The graduation requirement begins with the Class of 2015.
  • Mathematics

    At least 3.0 credits are required.  Students must successfully complete courses in Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II (or the equivalent integrated sequence).
  • Philosophy and Religious Studies

    At least .5 credit is required.  Students may choose among a range of rotating, cross departmental semester electives.
  • Science

    At least 3.0 credits are required.  Students must successfully complete a laboratory course in biology (one year), an upper-level quantitative laboratory course in chemistry or physics (one year), and two additional semesters of science coursework.
  • Sustainability Studies

    At least .5 credit is required from a range of year long and semester offerings.
  • Visual and Performing Arts

    At least 1.0 credit is required.  Students must successfully complete two semester classes in any combination of the visual and performing arts.
  • World Languages

    At least 2.0 credits* are required.  Students must successfully complete the second year of study of a language.
