Hiapo Emmons-Shaw

Hometown: Bethlehem, NH!
Education: BA History PSU
My primary roles at White Mountain: History Department Chair, History Teacher, Climbing Instructor, Hill House Dorm faculty
Why White Mountain? It is exactly the kind of place I want to live and work. I get to explore fascinating topics and ideas with students in the classroom in the morning and then help them challenge themselves in the mountains in the afternoon, all in a friendly multi-generational learning community.

What influenced your passion for teaching? Great teachers inside and outside the classroom
What excites you the most about teaching at WMS? The chance to work on fascinating ideas in a beautiful place with amazing colleagues and students.
What do you value most about the White Mountain community? I really value our inclusiveness and supportiveness. I think people feel safe and comfortable being themselves and expressing themselves honestly.
When not in the classroom I can be found: Playing outside with my own kids.
Favorite tradition at WMS? I really like Sign The Book. It really highlights the small inclusive nature of the school.
