"I’m grateful that my parents’ enthusiasm to provide the best for their children sent me on this life changing experience. They knew the vital role that education plays in a person's life. But it wasn’t just formal education at WMS that played a big part in who I am today."

While trying to summarize, my WMS memories in just a few paragraphs, my first thought was, how did I get there in the first place? I’m still not really sure of how one thing led to another, but I’m grateful that my parents’ enthusiasm to provide the best for their children sent me on this life changing experience. They knew the vital role that education plays in a person's life. But it wasn’t just formal education at WMS that played a big part in who I am today.

I had so many experiences and opportunities at WMS that weren’t part of my usual Brazilian culture and school life. I had the opportunity to take a ceramics class at WMS which is not something I would have done in Brazil. I learned about the American lifestyle and about new sports, some of which I still do not really understand, like Lacrosse! I was exposed to new foods and have nostalgic feelings for some of them similar to how some of us feel about grandma’s food. For instance, I still miss the desserts Carl made for us. Even the uncomfortable experiences such as hiking Mount Washington in really bad weather provide me with stories that I can tell to my friends and kids today.

All of these strong connections that I feel are essentially created by WMS people: my classmates from across America and all over the world, the faculty and staff from that time, and many others from WMS that I still have the pleasure to meet these days. Last year I was honored to receive a visit in Brazil from Mr. Brian Morgan, former Head of School. This reinforced for me the idea that WMS has an Embassy and Ambassador right here in Brazil – me! That said, all WMS “citizens” and community members are always welcome.
