Dear Students, Parents, and Friends,

It is with great privilege and excitement that I write to you about our Academic program. In some ways, the word academics is too limited to capture the learning goals for our students. We are after not simply academic excellence but intellectual excellence, something that I believe to be deeper and more powerful.

The White Mountain School believes that the best way to accomplish this goal is through a culture of inquiry, where students have opportunities to pursue personal questions within the context of a college prep framework. Our small size allows teachers to continue to mentor, prompt, challenge and guide students outside the walls of the classroom. Intellectual development is not segregated to the academic day, rather it is fostered in all aspects of school life.

Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning

“One of the most valuable lessons I've learned

is that we, as individuals, are responsible for enacting the change in which we believe. You are never too small, too inexperienced, or too young to champion a cause. If you have convictions about the environment, social movements, equal rights, or global injustice, follow those beliefs. As a member of The White Mountain School community, I am proud to say that those principles were fostered and encouraged by my experience as a WMS student.” — Kelly Cornell '04
