My primary roles at White Mountain: Director of Outdoor Education and Assistant Dean of Students

Why White Mountain?
Because of its long history and commitment to Outdoor Education, because it has the most robust Climbing program in the country for high school students, and because it is a wonderful place for kids to grow and develop and be themselves.

What influenced your passion for teaching?
I have always been inspired by the outdoors and our location in the White Mountains feeds that passion. To be able to combine the two things I love, the outdoors and teaching, allows me to live my dream and share that with my students.

What do you value most about the White Mountain community?
I value our commitment to building community and the outcomes from our intentional actions. It creates a fun, safe and vibrant community to be a part of.

When not in the classroom I can be found:
Either on the campus trails, out climbing in the mountains, on the campus 3000 sq ft. climbing wall, or adventuring with my daughter.

Favorite tradition at WMS?
Community Weekend for sure. We play together as a community, build relationships and have tons of fun.

Favorite White Mountain teaching moment?
Oh I have a ton! Most recently I would say that the culminating student project in my spring Outdoor Education and Leadership class sits at the top. At the end of the semester the students planned, prepped for and successfully ran a canoeing expedition. This project brings together all the skills we learned during the semester including leadership skills, outdoor technical skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to work together towards a final goal so name a few. The students were impressive and my role as the safety manager was never necessary. It was a pleasure to see them work and follow them all weekend.

Favorite season?
The Fall for sure. The colors of the leaves changing in New England is one of the most beautiful natural phenomenons in the world. Then add, climbing or mountain biking or hiking to the mix? That’s when life is at its best!
