Support The White Mountain Boarding School

A Tradition of Philanthropy

The White Mountain School, like all independent schools, relies heavily on alumnae/i, parents, neighbors, and friends for support. Your continued support to the School helps to realize our mission for every student. On behalf of our community, thank you!

The School is able to offer our students a truly extraordinary educational experience through the support from our parents and community with gifts to The Fund for White Mountain. Gifts to The Fund for White Mountain help to support academic programs, the arts, athletics and co-curricular activities, sustainability initiatives, technology, scholarships, student activities, community service, professional development, and so much more!

An education at The White Mountain School is made possible by generations of alumnae/i, parents, neighbors, and friends who contribute to The Fund for White Mountain. Your gift helps us prepare and inspire students to lead lives of curiosity, courage, and compassion—knowing that those who came before them are behind them all the way.

Support begins with you. We ask every family to make a gift to The Fund for White Mountain at an amount that is meaningful to you. All members of our community–current families, grandparents, alumnae/i, former families, trustees and faculty/staff–are asked to make The White Mountain School a philanthropic priority and show their support with a gift to The Fund for White Mountain.

Your gift supports the people and programs that make White Mountain so special–skilled teachers, small classes, individualized learning, and unique outdoor experiences that foster exploration and growth. All of this means more personal attention for each student. Tuition doesn’t cover all of a student’s opportunities at the School. That’s why independent schools need endowments, auxiliary money-making activities such as summer camps and, The Fund for White Mountain.

Unlike universities and large charities with large groups that support them, The White Mountain School looks to our small close-knit community to reach our goal. Every gift, of all amounts, truly makes a difference. The Fund for White Mountain is a part of the current year’s operating budget and your gift, therefore, makes a direct and immediate impact on the school. Giving is like voting on Election Day—your single vote may seem insignificant, but it’s the collective vote that makes a difference. When everyone participates in giving to The Fund for White Mountain, it’s like a vote of support for White Mountain. All of those supporting “votes” add up to thousands of dollars that are used to keep White Mountain running.

A for-profit business’s goal is to make money. A not-for-profit school’s purpose is to provide an education based on the school’s mission. A high-quality school is labor-intensive and people-oriented. On average, salary and benefits make up about 60-65% of a boarding school’s budget. What does this mean? The rising cost of faculty salaries and benefits drives the cost of independent school education. White Mountain needs to pay its faculty members to teach, coach, mentor and spend a lot of time outside the classroom providing support and supervision. To offer competitive salaries and provide programs for each student, we have to receive tuition, offer those summer camps and ask you for a gift. Your gift to a not-for-profit organization such as The White Mountain School is tax deductible.

Do you have a passion for the arts? Community service? Athletics? Do you think White Mountain wouldn’t be the same without a robotics team, climbing wall, sustainability club, or its outstanding faculty?

Direct your The Fund for White Mountain gift to White Mountain’s Highest Priorities (unrestricted), or support a specific area of the White Mountain experience that you value, such as:

  • Academic Programs and Professional Development

  • Visual and Performing Arts
