The White Mountain School community is enjoying a number of special activities and programs in the arts on three consecutive weekends this month, and we also look forward to a special weekend dedicated entirely to the arts this January.
Last weekend students made their way to Dickey House for an annual winter “Coffee House.” It’s a special event that students look forward to every year, an opportunity to gather with friends and share their vocal and instrumental talents in front of a warm fire. This year’s performances included several vocal pieces, a piano performance by Owen Ju, and even some first timers who rallied the crowd in the singing of the ABC’s. A fun time was had by all!
This weekend five students (Sam Bews ’15, Payge Emerson ’15, Katherine Desimine ’15, Henry Rothenberg ’16 and Tori Breen ’17) and another five faculty children (Faustine Ainsworth, Kobe and Asa Toms, Coltrane Stagg, and Justin Emmons-Shaw) will perform in the Creative Edge Dance Studio’s annual performance of The Nutcracker at the Littleton Opera House. Sam is pictured above at a rehearsal for the performance. The performance has become a holiday tradition for local families and dance enthusiasts in the North Country. We are proud to see the WMS dance program so well-represented in this beautiful performance.
Next weekend, the entire WMS community will join together for a favorite school tradition, the Holiday Celebration and Community Dinner. This year the audience can look forward to hearing the talents the A Cappella group, vocal and instrumental soloists, and of course, the senior class rendition of Silent Night and the traditional passing down of candles.
When students return from winter break, they have even more to look forward to. Rachael Norton, Director of the Art Department, announced recently that the community can look forward to a special weekend in January that will feature visual and performing art, and music in various forms. The weekend is to include a gallery opening of student work, theater performances, a poetry “slam,” and an all-school singing workshop. Stay tuned next month for news from Winter Arts Weekend!
